THE RE-LAUNCH

It has been a VERY long time since I made an entry here. I guess it time to bring you guys up to date on what’s happening with me…

For over 25 years I have viewed myself exclusively as a producer. Everything I recorded, posted or released was done with the goal of getting production and/or remix work. Even back in the day when I was rapping, it was done to draw attention to my production.  In the fall of 2016 I began to make a major paradigm shift toward viewing myself as an artist. It has significantly changed the way I compose & produce as well as the way I think about my music. Life challenges have delayed me quite a bit over the last year, but the time has finally arrived to launch this new chapter!!

Right now, I am re-launching my music career. I have spent a great deal of time studying and updating my understanding of the music industry and what is required to be successful. Most of what I learned back in the 90’s is now obsolete. I am learning so much about how to utilize social media, e-mail, and all of the modern promotional tools necessary for having success in music. I am also learning to re-define success. I am a 50 year-old electronic & funk musician - so platinum records are no longer a feasible goal. At this point, success is growing an audience of 10,000 to 20,000 people who love my music and generating enough money through releases & sync licensing to allow me to spend less time at my 9-to-5 and more time in the studio making music. I have learned and embraced that my commitment to the business side of my career must equal my passion for creating music. This requires a level of discipline that I have lacked in the past.

One of my biggest challenges in this endeavor is organizing my efforts. Because I create in several different styles, for branding purposes I will continue to release music under several different names: The King Midas Project / Electric Maestro / Solitary Scientist / Talented Hands as well as releasing my funk tracks and remixing under my own name, Waynebo. I am also developing tracks for sync licensing (film/TV/Commercials, etc.) under the name Waynebo’s Kitchen Sync. Sync licensing is a whole different game than commercial releases with a completely different set of rules.

Sorting out the order in which to proceed is an agonizing process because I have so many musical ideas bubbling inside of me right now. But that is a very good problem to have. As part of this new chapter of my career I am re-committing myself to posting entries here as well as my blog on a regular basis.

And, oh yes, for fans of The Afterglow: I have not completely abandoned the podcasting game. There is a new show in the works. Not sure of the launch date, but stay tuned.

I am very excited about this new chapter in my story. I hope you’ll stay with me on this journey.
