Hello my friends! It’s time to close one sonic chapter and move into the next. I complete this chapter of unfinished business with a new TKMP album: Cleaning The Archives 2013-2020

My journey to find my sound as a producer has always included an abundance of dabbling and experimentation. The King Midas Project is a prime example of this.

The music on this album represents house music’s influence on me as a musician. Some of these tracks are the result of my attempts to combine the driving rhythms of house with the 80’s & 90’s style of keyboard playing that has always heavily influenced my music.

This is music I wanted you to hear simply because I had fun creating it and it’s part of my journey.

The opening track “The Spirit of 1991”, is the only track that was created specifically for this project. It’s a shout out to that 90’s house sound that we love. The bonus track “Lucid Clouds” – recorded in 2013 - is exclusive to Bandcamp and my website. There are also 4 tracks on this album that were originally supposed to be released under the name Solitary Scientist. You’ll hear my thumping bass guitar on those tracks. I also decided to include re-mastered versions of some tracks that technically were released, but nobody heard them. I’ve been working on my mastering skills, and this was a good opportunity to put them to work. Side note: The original version of “I Can’t Get Enough” – which includes the MJ sample it was built around – is also exclusive to Bandcamp and my website.

In 2024, TKMP will no longer be treated as a side project. You can expect to hear a more focused sound - which is a bit different from the decade of dabbling embodied in this album – and much more consistent releases. There are already 8 tracks finished and more in the works. I hope you enjoy this one. I THANK YOU and I hope you stick around for what’s coming.

The track is highlighted by a short monologue of me speaking on one of lives simple truths. Undergirded with a classic 4-on-the-floor beat, a strong, driving bassline and rhythmic keys & synths, the energy builds up into a fabulous bridge filled with tasty counter melodies. This one is sure to keep heads nodding for a while.

Thank you for listening.

The full “Cleaning The Archives” album is coming soon. Stay tuned!

“Nights of Isolation” was born out of those solo, late-night sessions that musicians and producers live for. That time of day where you can immerse yourself in the music, experiment, and create without distraction or demands from other areas of life…

This release features 2 tracks recorded in 2019 that were originally going to be released under my Solitary Scientist moniker. The plan was to use that moniker for a house sound that incorporated my signature, thumping bass guitar in the grooves. I decided that managing and trying to promote yet another artist name was wasted energy that should be directed elsewhere, so I scrapped the idea after releasing 2 tracks in 2019. A rough mix of “Nights of Isolation” that I sent to a DJ friend got some good feedback from other DJ’s he passed it on to, so I always knew I had something pretty good, but I just hadn’t settled on how to move forward.

After 4 years of bumping the rough drafts in my car (my kids know these tracks VERY well), I finally went back and polished up the production, then properly mixed & mastered “Nights of Isolation” with “Hump Day” included as a b-side to the single.

I’m so excited to finally let you guys hear these tracks! More coming very soon. THANK YOU for your support!

How Much Is Enough? (The 2nd Movement)

While recording “How Much Is Enough” back in 2017, I was particularly excited about the 2nd of the 3 movements in that track. I remember very well the energy that hit me as I played the parts in that section. With a piano riff inspired by Sheena Easton’s “Sugar Walls” (Produced by Prince), I felt that section of the song was so strong that it deserved it’s own track. So, in 2018, I expounded on that idea with a more dramatic intro that includes a synth solo and ultimately explodes into it’s own vibe.

This version keeps the original rendition of the 2nd movement as it’s center section before closing out with a modified version of the 1st section. I have always intended to edit the 2nd movement into something different for this version but didn’t get to that until very recently. We’ll get to that on the next release…

The journey continues with the 4th release in the “Cleaning The Archives” series with a track from 2017.

2017 was a memorable year for me creatively. That year began with a hard drive crash that caught me being less than diligent with backing up my files. I lost almost 4 years of work! Ultimately, I was able to salvage a little bit, but I still took a very painful hit. In the aftermath of that came a flurry of creativity over the spring & summer. This flurry included a few tracks you may already know:

That First Sunrise:

version 1) https://thekingmidasproject.bandcamp.com/album/that-first-sunrise

version 2) https://waynebo.bandcamp.com/album/that-first-sunrise-waynebos-backbeat-mix

Dance At The Bottom: https://electricmaestro.bandcamp.com/track/dance-at-the-bottom

The Brickyard: https://thekingmidasproject.bandcamp.com/track/the-brickyard

The Long Ride Home: https://thekingmidasproject.bandcamp.com/track/the-long-ride-home

I Can’t Get Enough: https://solitaryscientist.bandcamp.com/album/i-cant-get-enough

These are the tracks I managed to release. There were quite a few more that are still waiting on their turn to see the light of day.

This, of course, brings us to today’s release.

One of the things I’ve wrestled with over the years is a tendency to over-produce. I often have to go back and remove elements from a track to get it right. With this one, I decided not to do that. I love the busyness of it and decided that this time, I would layer and add as many parts as I wanted to. That’s where the title came from.

“How Much Is Enough?” was recorded the same weekend as “I Can’t Get Enough”. It was supposed to be the second in a trilogy of releases. (If you listen, you’ll notice that I kept the same claps on both tracks because they started in the same session) I’ll spare you the ridiculous details and just say it didn’t work out.

The good news is this track will still be part of a trilogy. “How Much Is Enough” is a track that is delivered in 3 distinct movements. The 2nd movement starts just after the 3-minute mark and lasts about 2 ½ minutes. I love this 2nd movement so much that I made a version that centers around that portion of the track. We will get to that version next week.

In the meantime, enjoy another track that’s been sitting on my hard drive for over 5 years.

The music continues with release #3 in my "Cleaning The Archives" series. "The Long Ride Home" was recorded in the summer of 2017 around the same time I recorded "The Brickyard" - which was released in November of 2017. It was supposed to be released a few weeks after that track dropped, but that never worked out.

I'm happy to finally deliver it
