Lecrae is probably the biggest hip-hop artist you've never heard of. I've been a fan of his since 2005 because I'm a big fan and supporter of Christian hip-hop and he's a CHH artist. With no airplay at all, his 2012 album "Gravity" sold 72,000 units in the 1st week - A testimony to his work ethic in building his fan base (and stewarding his God-given platform) over the last 10 years. In recent years, his music has been gaining some attention in the mainstream and make no mistake, it's because he is a dope artist. Equally important, the content in his music stands in stark contrast to what the radio and mainstream media promote. In fact, quite a few of his songs are direct responses to what you hear on the radio.
He continues to grow lyrically - both in his content and delivery. Production on "Anomaly" is as good as anything you'll hear in the mainstream. The sound is very contemporary, but not cookie-cutter. It just bangs like a good hip-hop album should.
First and foremost, this is excellent hip-hop music. Check him out and you'll see why I'm a fan. You can listen to his new album "Anomaly" on Spotify right now! (I also recommend "Church Clothes 2" on Spotify as well)
